Updates After Police Investigation
The juvenile who murdered the doctor is now in police custody and the investigation is underway.
Police identified the suspect through one of his instagram posts in which he was seen holding a pistol in an image and the caption reads as “Kar diya 2024 me murder”.
The juvenile told the police that two other teenagers were also involved in the murder with him. Police are doing the investigation to find the other two as well.
- An on-duty doctor named Javed Akhtar, a Unani Practitioner (BUMS) was shot dead in the early hours of Thursday, 3rd October.
- Akhtar was found dead on his chair bleeding heavily from a head wound in his cabin at Nima Hospital, Jaitpur, Kalindi Kunj, Delhi.
- The doctor was shot inside a nursing home in Kalindi Kunj area of Southeast Delhi.
- The suspects, who appeared to be teenagers, entered the premises for treatment and shot the doctor around 1:45 AM.
- Investigations are underway, police are examining the CCTV footage of the related areas in their search of collecting evidence and identifications of the suspect.
- One juvenile came with another juvenile to have his injured toe dressed. The dressing of the injured juvenile was also done the previous day at the same hospital.
- On the day of the incident, after completion of their dressing by Md. Kamil, both of them went into the cabin of Dr. Javed Akhtar for taking medicinal prescription.
- Just moments later, a gunshot was heard, and the doctor was found dead in a pool of blood on his chair in his cabin.
- The incident has caused widespread concern, as people question if even hospitals are not safe for doctors, where else would be?
