Prime Minister Narendra Modi has kicked off a pivotal three-nation diplomatic tour to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand, scheduled from July 6 to 11, 2026. The multi-leg journey aims to deepen strategic maritime security, expand bilateral trade, and reinforce India’s commitment to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region under its Act East Policy and MAHASAGAR Vision. Strengthening Ties in the Indian Ocean

First Leg: The Indonesian Connection

PM Modi began his journey in Indonesia from July 6 to 8 at the special invitation of President Prabowo Subianto. This marks the Prime Minister’s first bilateral visit to the country since ties were elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018. The trip follows President Prabowo’s state visit to New Delhi as the Chief Guest for India’s Republic Day celebrations in January 2025.

Aside from trade and maritime security dialogues in Jakarta, PM Modi traveled alongside President Prabowo to Yogyakarta to visit the historic UNESCO World Heritage-listed Prambanan Temple complex. The shared visit underscores the centuries-old civilizational and cultural bonds linking the two nations.

Indonesia: Advancing Maritime and Cultural Partnership

During his visit to Indonesia, Prime Minister Modi held extensive discussions with President Prabowo Subianto on enhancing maritime security, trade, defense cooperation, and connectivity in the Indo-Pacific. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and advancing joint initiatives under India’s Act East Policy and Indonesia’s regional vision.

In a gesture highlighting the enduring civilizational ties between the two nations, PM Modi accompanied President Prabowo to the UNESCO-listed Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta. The visit celebrated the shared cultural heritage that continues to serve as a foundation for contemporary cooperation.

Deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Second Leg: The Australian Summit

Moving to the southern ocean, PM Modi arrived in Melbourne, Australia, for the second leg from July 8 to 10 at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The core focus here centers on the third India-Australia Annual Summit, where the two leaders are reviewing critical defense frameworks, emerging technologies, sports science, and regional supply chain security.

Key Diplomatic Agenda: “My visit will strengthen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and take forward our relations in the areas of defense, security, trade, investments, education, and mobility,” PM Modi stated in his official departure briefing.

A major highlight in Melbourne features the India-Australia CEOs Forum, where the PM is addressing prominent business leaders to accelerate bilateral investments. He also met with Governor-General Sam Mostyn and addressed an enthusiastic gathering of the local Indian diaspora.

Australia: Strengthening Strategic and Economic Ties

In Australia, PM Modi participated in the third India–Australia Annual Summit with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, focusing on defense collaboration, critical technologies, education, and resilient supply chains. The discussions further consolidated the already robust Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two democracies.

The Prime Minister also addressed the India–Australia CEOs Forum in Melbourne, encouraging greater bilateral investment and business cooperation. In addition, he met Governor-General Sam Mostyn and interacted with members of the Indian diaspora, recognizing their vital role in fostering people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The outcomes during this visit reflect the confidence with which India and Australia are looking towards the future. Together, we will continue to unlock new opportunities for growth, innovation and shared prosperity. https://t.co/tGAflRA4W7

A Historical Milestone in the Pacific

Third Leg: First State Visit to New Zealand in 40 Years

The final leg of the tour takes PM Modi to Auckland, New Zealand, from July 10 to 11. This marks the first official state visit by an Indian Prime Minister to New Zealand in four decades, building upon the momentum of New Zealand PM Christopher Luxon’s visit to India in March 2025.

The talks primarily focus on operationalizing the historic Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed between India and New Zealand earlier this year.

FTA Key ProvisionsImpact & Scope
Tariff EliminationEliminates 95 percent of tariffs on New Zealand goods.
Market AccessProvides complete duty-free access for all Indian exports to New Zealand.
Investment CommitmentCarries a massive $20 billion investment commitment from Wellington into India.

The visit bridges a long-standing diplomatic gap and cements India’s reach into the high-income Pacific market, while leveraging the thriving Indian diaspora that continues to excel in New Zealand’s social fabric.

Service, Humility and Public Duty

As world leaders converge to draft policies on trade, security, and international borders, the grand scale of global diplomacy serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility towards peace and human welfare. Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj’s spiritual guidance highlights that true leadership lies in selfless service, humility, and working for the universal goodwill of all human beings. SatGyan teaches us that while nations establish treaties for material prosperity, ultimate stability comes when individuals and leaders alike renounce arrogance and greed, aligning their actions with the spiritual laws of Supreme God Kabir. True global harmony is achieved not merely by economic pacts, but when the spirit of compassion, transparent duty, and mutual respect guides our global relations.
