From February 22, the Rapid Rail will operate from Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram in Meerut. On the same day, Metro services within Meerut will also begin, allowing passengers not only to reach the city’s outer areas but also to interchange and travel into interior localities.

Prime Minister Modi will also address a rally in Mohiuddinpur. A new township named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is proposed to be developed in Mohiuddinpur.

Current Operations And Corridor Expansion

At present, the Namo Bharat train is operating between Meerut South (Bhoodbaral) and New Ashok Nagar Rapid Rail station in Delhi. Approximately 60,000 passengers are travelling daily on this route.

The first phase of the Rapid Rail has already been inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With the February 22 launch, the services will extend to:

  • Sarai Kale Khan (Delhi)

  • Shatabdinagar
  • Begumpul

These stations are part of the Namo Bharat corridor and will now be connected under the expanded operational stretch.

The same rail track will also support Meerut Metro services. The Metro will operate from Meerut South station to Modipuram station. There will be stoppages at 13 stations along the Meerut Metro route.

Out of the total 82-kilometre Namo Bharat corridor, Meerut Metro will operate on a 23-kilometre section within the city.

Speed Specifications

  • Maximum speed of Meerut Metro: 120 kilometres per hour

The integration allows seamless travel between regional rapid transit and intra-city metro services.

Project Cost, Timeline And Implementation

The Rapid Rail project is considered a major infrastructure initiative for Delhi NCR. The RRTS project cost is approximately Rs 30,000 crore.

The project was launched in March 2019. However, it is being completed with a delay of nearly one year.

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is implementing the project.

Additional RRTS Corridors In Delhi NCR

Preparations are underway for four major Rapid Rail corridors in Delhi NCR. These corridors aim to connect eight major cities.

NCRTC has prepared a Rapid Rail plan from:

  • IFFCO Chowk in Gurugram to Surajpur in Greater Noida

Additionally, preparation is ongoing for:

  • Delhi–Panipat–Karnal Rapid Rail corridor
  • Ghaziabad to Jewar Airport RRTS corridor

These corridors are part of the broader regional connectivity expansion strategy.

Public Impact And Connectivity Significance

The Delhi–Meerut Rapid Rail project has been regarded as a significant infrastructure development for Delhi NCR. The expanded corridor from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram will enable direct high-speed regional travel while integrating with Meerut Metro for intra-city movement.

With 60,000 daily passengers already using the operational section, the full commissioning is expected to enhance connectivity between Delhi and Meerut and streamline commuter transit across the National Capital Region.

A Major Milestone For Delhi NCR Connectivity

The commissioning of the full Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor on February 22 marks a key phase in the implementation of India’s Regional Rapid Transit System. With services extending from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram and Meerut Metro operations beginning simultaneously, the project brings together regional and urban mobility under a single integrated framework. Initiated in March 2019 at an estimated cost of Rs 30,000 crore, the corridor now moves toward full-scale operations after nearly one year of delay, strengthening connectivity across Delhi NCR.

Spiritual Perspective On True Progress

Large infrastructure projects such as the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor aim to improve mobility, save time, and enhance the quality of daily life. From a broader perspective, many spiritual traditions emphasise that material progress becomes truly meaningful when accompanied by ethical conduct, social harmony, and inner balance.

Tatvdarshi Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj teaches that real welfare of society depends not only on physical development but also on righteous living guided by true spiritual Knowledge. According to Him, when individuals follow moral values and spiritual discipline, collective progress benefits humanity in a deeper and more sustainable way.
