Meharwala village, located in Tibbi Tehsil of Hanumangarh district in Rajasthan, has been struggling with a severe waterlogging crisis for decades. What began in 1994 gradually turned into a major challenge that affected the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of farmers. Over the last three years alone, nearly 3,000 bighas of agricultural land became heavily impacted, leaving farmers in a state of uncertainty and distress.

During the monsoon season, water levels in the fields would rise between four and seven feet. Paddy crops were regularly destroyed, and farmers were often unable to sow wheat. Families that had invested their life’s savings and hard work into farming suffered continuous losses. For many, the crisis was no longer just an economic issue but a struggle for survival.

No Harvest for Three Consecutive Years

Several farmers stated that their land had not produced a proper crop for the last three years. Water remained stagnant in the fields for extended periods, and by the time it receded, soil fertility had declined significantly. Layers of salt began accumulating on the surface, making cultivation increasingly difficult.

Former Sarpanch Rajaram Devag explained that hundreds of bighas of land in different parts of the village had turned barren. Farmers were unable to cultivate major crops such as paddy and wheat. Some attempted to grow maize as an alternative, but yields remained extremely low.

One farmer emotionally shared that not a single grain had been produced from his seven-kila farmland in the last three years. The repeated losses had made it difficult for his family to sustain their livelihood.

Impact Beyond Agriculture

The effects of waterlogging extended far beyond farming. Residents living in remote hamlets often became disconnected from the main village during the rainy season. Children were unable to attend school, and transporting sick individuals to hospitals became a major challenge.

Elderly villagers recalled that during heavy rains, the entire area resembled an island. Roads remained submerged, and normal life came to a standstill.

Years of Appeals, But No Permanent Solution

According to villagers, numerous complaints were submitted to authorities over the years. Demonstrations, appeals, and various efforts were made to draw attention to the issue. Although some small measures were undertaken, they proved insufficient to address a problem of such magnitude.

Residents said that whatever assistance they received was minimal compared to the scale of the crisis. As a result, conditions continued to deteriorate year after year without a lasting solution.

A Ray of Hope Through Saint Rampal Ji Maharaj’s Kisan Mazdoor Bachao Campaign

Villagers stated that approximately six months ago, Meharwala Gram Panchayat Sarpanch Prithviraj Mehda submitted a request for flood-relief assistance under the Annapurna Muhim of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj. Following this request, a survey team associated with Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj’s Kisan Mazdoor Bachao Service Campaign visited the village five days before the relief material was delivered.

A detailed survey was conducted under the guidance of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj. During the assessment, seven major waterlogging points were identified, and it was determined that approximately 2,850 to 3,000 bighas of land were affected.

Villagers reported that within just five days of the survey, all necessary relief materials were arranged and delivered. The speed of the response surprised many residents.

The relief materials sent for Meharwala village included:

  • 44,000 feet of 8-inch pipeline
  • Adhesive materials for pipeline installation
  • Additional accessories required for laying the pipeline

In addition, Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj reportedly assured villagers that seven motors would also be provided once the pipeline installation work was completed.

Immediate Relief Action Impresses Villagers

As soon as the village elders and respected residents gave their application at the feet of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj at around 12 noon, events unfolded with remarkable speed. The very next day, at 6 a.m., when Meharwala village was still waking up, a convoy of trucks loaded with pipes arrived in the village. The moment the trucks entered Meharwala, the villagers’ joy knew no bounds. The pipes, delivered in more than a dozen trucks, were seen by many residents as a much-needed blessing for the village.

Villagers believe that these pipelines will help facilitate the drainage of stagnant water from the fields, making it possible to reclaim thousands of bighas of land that have remained uncultivable for years and restore them for agricultural use.

Village Celebrates Arrival of Relief Materials

News of the relief effort quickly spread throughout the village, creating an atmosphere of celebration. Large numbers of villagers gathered to welcome the initiative.

Tractor rallies were organized, music systems were played, and people from all sections of society participated in the celebrations. Men, women, youth, elderly residents, and schoolchildren joined together in expressing their gratitude and hope for the future.

Many villagers said they had never before witnessed such enthusiasm and public participation surrounding a relief effort.

Farmers Hope for Productive Fields Again

Farmers expressed confidence that the drainage materials would help solve their biggest challenge by enabling proper water discharge from the fields.

One farmer stated that he had been waiting for such support for years and now believed that paddy and wheat cultivation could once again become possible in the coming seasons with the grace of Saint Rampal Ji Maharaj.

Another farmer said that the benefits would extend beyond individual families and positively impact the entire village, strengthening the livelihoods of thousands of people.

Discussion of Saint Rampal Ji Maharaj’s Social Welfare Initiatives

During the occasion, villagers also spoke about various social welfare activities associated with Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj. Residents noted that support is being extended to needy families in areas such as food, clothing, education, healthcare, and housing, contributing to positive social change.

Several villagers said that after waiting for years for a meaningful solution, the recent assistance by Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj had renewed their hope. They expressed gratitude and said the initiative had the potential to bring positive change to the lives of thousands of farmers and laborers.

Farmers Battling Waterlogging Find a New Lease on Life

Today, the people of Meharwala see more than just relief materials; they see the possibility of a better future. With the grace of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj, the people of Meharwala envision a day when fields that have remained submerged for years will once again be covered in green crops.

Farmers believe that with the relief material provided by Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj, thousands of bighas of land could become cultivable again, strengthening the economic condition of hundreds of families. For the people of Meharwala, this is not merely a story of waterlogging relief—it is a story of struggle, resilience, hope, and the dream of restoring prosperity to their village.
