Waterlogging Continued to Affect Farmers for Nearly Three Decades

According to villagers, Chang village has been struggling with severe waterlogging since the devastating floods of 1995. Every year, nearly 1,700 to 2,700 acres of fertile agricultural land remained affected, damaging paddy and wheat crops and making several fields unsuitable for cultivation.
Farmers explained that repeated crop losses pushed many into financial hardship, while several fields remained uncultivated because of stagnant water. Local representatives said repeated efforts over the years had not resulted in a permanent solution.
Gram Panchayat Submitted a Prayer at Shri Dhanana Dham
With no lasting solution available, representatives of Gram Panchayat Chang approached Tatvdarshi Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj at Shri Dhanana Dham and submitted a prayer regarding the village’s water logging problem.
After hearing the concerns, He directed a special survey team to visit the village. The team carried out a drone survey and a technical inspection to assess the extent of the problem and identify a permanent drainage solution.
Technical Survey Revised the Original Proposal
During the survey, the team found that the village’s original request for 8,000 feet of 8-inch pipeline would not permanently solve the problem.
The survey recommended:
- 18,000 feet of 8-inch pipeline
- Two pumping points
- Two 220 HP motors
The proposed system was designed to safely discharge accumulated water from the affected fields towards the drainage point identified during the technical inspection.
Material Reached Chang Village Within Days
Following the survey report, the proposal received immediate approval.
According to the information shared during the programme, trucks carrying the approved material reached Chang village within about 48 hours of the process beginning.
The material included:
- 18,000 feet of pipeline
- Air valves
- Nuts and bolts
- Jointing material and other required accessories
The entire pipeline material was formally handed over to the Gram Panchayat.
Villagers Welcomed the Relief Convoy
Before entering the village, a Mangalacharan was performed. Villagers, local representatives and sevadars gathered early in the morning, while tractors joined the convoy carrying the pipeline material into Chang village.
The programme later reached Jangra Dharamshala, where village representatives, farmers and members of the Gram Panchayat addressed those present.
Farmers Recalled Years of Crop Losses
During interactions, farmers said the waterlogging had continued since the 1995 floods and had repeatedly damaged paddy and wheat crops.
Farmer Veer Singh described the project as a permanent solution and said farmers were hopeful that the initiative would help prevent recurring crop losses.
District Councillor Lokesh Bunty said the village delegation had approached Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj only two days earlier and that the response began immediately after the technical assessment. He also stated that the problem had continued for nearly 30 years.
Earlier Assistance to the Village Was Also Mentioned
During the programme, village representatives also referred to earlier assistance extended by Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj under the Annapurna Muhim for the village gaushala. They stated that fodder had previously been provided after the village sought assistance during a difficult period caused by flooding.
Several speakers said they viewed the latest initiative as another important step towards addressing the village’s long-standing challenges.
Gram Panchayat to Begin Underground Pipeline Work
Representatives of the survey team informed villagers that the approved pipeline material had been handed over to the Gram Panchayat.
They stated that once the underground pipeline installation is completed, the Gram Panchayat will inform the ashram. Thereafter, the pumping locations will be verified again before the two approved 220 HP motors are handed over.
Sarpanch Phool Kumar said the Gram Panchayat would soon convene a meeting, complete the necessary formalities and begin laying the underground pipeline at the earliest.
Relief Project Raises Hope for Agricultural Restoration
Village representatives said the approved 18,000-foot pipeline is expected to improve drainage from waterlogged areas and help restore thousands of acres of farmland for cultivation. Farmers expressed hope that the initiative would reduce recurring waterlogging and support agricultural activities in the coming seasons.
Chang Village Looks Ahead After Decades of Waterlogging
With the pipeline material now handed over to the Gram Panchayat and preparations for underground installation set to begin, villagers said they hope the long-pending drainage project will help address a problem that has affected Chang village since 1995. The initiative under Phase II of the Kisan Mazdoor Bachao Abhiyan marks the beginning of a structured effort based on technical survey findings and local participation.
