Decades-Old Flooding Turned the Village Pond into a Major Concern

According to villagers, the large pond located in the middle of Gursar village became a recurring source of hardship during the monsoon. Whenever heavy rainfall occurred, the pond overflowed, allowing water to spread into residential areas and village streets.

The prolonged waterlogging often remained for several months, submerging agricultural fields, damaging crops and increasing the risk of diseases due to stagnant water. Villagers recalled experiencing severe floods in 1988, 1992 and 1995, saying those years remain among the most difficult periods in the village’s memory.

Besides affecting farmland, the flooding also threatened homes, livestock and the daily lives of hundreds of families.

Years of Efforts Failed to Deliver a Permanent Solution

The Gram Panchayat stated that several attempts had been made over the years to resolve the drainage problem, but no permanent solution emerged.

Sarpanch Praveen explained that rainwater previously drained through a canal system into a Rajbaha. However, after the area became a tail-end section around 10–12 years ago, the village lost its effective drainage outlet, making flooding a recurring problem.

Several villagers also said that despite approaching government authorities earlier, they had not received a lasting solution.

Technical Survey Conducted After Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj Accepted the Request

Following the Panchayat’s request, Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj directed His special survey team to visit Gursar village. The team reached the village the following day and carried out:

  • Drone mapping of the drainage route
  • Ground inspection from the pond to the drain
  • Technical measurements of the proposed alignment

The technical survey concluded that the project required:

  • 3,600-foot-long 8-inch pipeline
  • One 20 HP motor

The survey report was then presented before Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj, who immediately approved the assistance.

Pipeline and Essential Materials Reached the Village Within Days

Soon after approval under the Annapurna Muhim – Phase II, trucks carrying the required materials reached Gursar village.

The material handed over included:

  • 3,600-foot-long 8-inch pipeline
  • Fevicol
  • Air valves
  • Clips
  • Nut bolts
  • Other pipeline accessories

The survey team informed villagers that the 20 HP motor would be handed over after the underground pipeline installation was completed and verified through another survey.

Village Welcomed the Relief Convoy

The arrival of the relief convoy witnessed enthusiastic participation from villagers.

Residents welcomed the convoy with:

  • Tractors
  • Flower garlands
  • Traditional drum beats
  • Public gathering at the village entrance

The procession later moved through the village towards the Government School, where a public programme was organised.

During the event, Sarpanch Praveen welcomed the visiting team and thanked Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj and all volunteers for extending timely assistance.

Villagers Recall Years of Losses Due to Flooding

Several villagers shared their experiences during the programme.

One villager, Karan Singh, said rainwater often remained in the village for two to three months, affecting children, livestock and daily movement while increasing health concerns.

Another farmer, Manoj, who works as both an electrician and farmer, said three killas of his agricultural land had been damaged during the previous floods. He added that the entire village remained awake with excitement after learning that the survey had been completed and the materials had arrived.

Farmer Bhupendra said the village had struggled with drainage problems for years despite repeated representations. He noted that within only a few days of approaching Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj, both the survey and material supply had been completed.

Farmer Anil said fields located near the pond regularly submerged during heavy rainfall, while overflowing water also threatened residential areas and livestock. He expressed hope that the new drainage arrangement would help prevent future flooding.

An elderly villager recalled witnessing the major floods of 1988, 1992 and 1995 and said the project would not only help drain flood water but could also benefit nearby agricultural areas requiring irrigation.

Several villagers also described the speed of the assistance as unprecedented compared with their previous experiences.

Pipeline Work to Begin Before Motor Installation

During the handover programme, Gram Panchayat representatives confirmed that all materials except the motor had been received.

The Panchayat stated that underground pipeline installation would begin as soon as weather conditions permitted. After completion, the survey team would inspect the work, following which the 20 HP motor would be provided as directed by Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj.

A New Chapter in Gursar Village’s Flood Management

The assistance under Annapurna Muhim – Phase II from Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj is expected to improve the drainage of excess pond water directly towards the drain, reducing the risk of flooding in residential areas, agricultural fields and livestock zones during heavy rainfall. Villagers expressed hope that the long-standing challenge of waterlogging would finally move towards a permanent solution after decades of recurring floods. For more information contact
