The Indian Railways has now adapted a new process where they can take candidate details from DigiLocker while attending Railway jobs, which means the recruitment may shrink from the present 18-24 months to 6 months at most as per Economic Times report. Here’s a quick overview of the impact of this major update:
What is DigiLocker?
It is a cloud based document storage and sharing service as well as a certificate verifiable service. The documents that are uploaded on the DigiLocker go through verification from government records and are legally accepted as authentications of the physical document.
Streamlining Recruitment in Railways
The Indian Railways can now obtain candidate documents in a more convenient means beneficial in any selection where hundreds of thousands to millions across the nation compete for a lot of positions. The process of verification entails the use of digital copies eliminating cases of fraud because the documents are obtained from the government database.

Massive scale of Railway recruitment
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the magnitude of railway recruitment: in three exams which were done recently, 2.37 crore candidates appeared and only 1.3 lakh were hired. The huge number of transactions made to execute this process had called for a faster and more efficient method, which saw the inclusion of DigiLocker.
Simplifying the Complex Process
Incorporating the DigiLocker into the hiring process will ease and shorten the lengthy processes of recruiting of Group C posts, which seems to attract many applicants because of the security that comes along with the job plus a fixed pay.
Cost and Time Efficiency
Through enabling citizens to submit documents through DigiLocker for recruitment targeting the Indian Railways and other government agencies, the administration cost is reduced, paper use reduced and almost 75% of the verification process shall be reduced hence enhancing the efficiency of the whole recruitment system and environmental friendly.
This action aims on changing the tendency of recruitment for one of the largest employers in India in terms of turnover and scope, making it much faster, more secure and efficient for both parties involved – candidates and authorities.
