On the occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day, Honourable President Droupadi Murmu posthomously awarded the prestigious Kirti Chakra, India’s second highest peacetime gallantry award to Indian Army’s Colonel Manpreet Singh and three more brave Indian soldiers. The late officer was recognised for his bravery and commitment towards the nation during an anti-terrorism operation in Jammu Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Colonel Manpreet Singh’s Sacrifice For The Country
On 13th September 2023, Colonel Manpreet Singh was martyred while fighting terrorists in an attack in the Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir. During this intense anti-terror operation, he sustained severe injuries but continued to fight to serve the nation, showcasing his bravery and determination. His intelligent and quick thinking plugged all the escape routes for terrorists, leading to the elimination of one of them. The terrorist was linked to a known terror group.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jasleen Kaur and two children. Mrs. Jasleen Kaur accepted the Kirti Chakra on behalf of her late husband, expressing her gratitude towards the Indian Army for recognising Col. Manpreet’s bravery and sacrifice for the nation.
Kirti Chakra 2024: List of Awardees
There are four recipients of this gallantry award in 2024. Their details are mentioned below:
- Colonel Manpreet Singh, Sena Medal: He was martyred on 13th September 2023 while leading a specific search and destroy operation in the Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir. He neutralised one terrorist and displayed excellent tactical acumen, preventing the other terrorists from escaping.
- Rifleman Ravi Kumar (posthumous): He was part of the Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry and the 63rd Battalion Rashtriya Rifles. Rifleman Ravi was recognised for his extreme bravery and neutralising two terrorists in the combat operation of September 2023. He volunteered to be the leading Scout of the Commanding Officer’s Quick Reaction Team.
- DSP of J&K Police Muzzammil Bhatt (posthumous): DSP Muzzammil Bhatt was also recognised for his bravery after being martyred in the anti-terror operation in J&K’s Anantnag district in 2023. He led the Special Operations Group (SOG) in collaboration with the Indian Army in Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir, on 13th September 2023. Displaying extraordinary courage, he neutralised one hardcore terrorist.
- Major Malla Rama Gopal Naidu: He has been awarded the Kirti Chakra for his immense bravery in military operations as a resolute leader who neutralised two terrorists. He was the leader of an ambush party alongside the LOC in the Kupwara district of Jammu & Kashmir.
What Is Real Independence?
True Freedom is the ultimate liberation of a soul from the vicious, unending cycle of birth and death. This is known as salvation. It has been 78 years since we got independence from British Rule, but have we truly achieved freedom from the karmic cycle?
We have not. This is the reason for the real sorrow and miseries. To achieve this real freedom or liberation, we should know the purpose of this precious human life. Human birth is given to us to seek the one Supreme Creator, God Kabir. Kabir Saheb states:

Real Independence or liberation can be achieved by doing the authentic worship of God Kabir, under the refuge of a Complete Saint (Tatvdarshi Sant). A Tatvdarshi Sant is that trusted messenger whom God Kabir appoints on Earth to spread His supreme knowledge.
Who Can Give Us True Independence?
