What is PMAY (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana)?
The Indian Government launched the PMAY in 2015 with the objective of ‘Housing for all’ by 2022. It aimed to provide affordable housing to economically weaker sections (EWS), low income groups or middle class society in both rural and urban areas.
As the original timeline of the vision has lapsed, the government recognised the need for more efforts and therefore launched the scheme as PMAY 2.0 in order to address the housing challenges.
Key objectives of PMAY-U 2.0
- To promote eco-friendly construction techniques and materials for sustainable urban development.
- To target the affordable housing solutions for low and middle income groups, including differently abled individuals, women, and senior citizens.
- To provide subsidies at lower interest rates and flexible financing options.
- To bridge the gap between demand and supply in urban and semi-urban areas of the nation.
Four verticals of PMAY-U 2.0 scheme
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs implements the scheme through the following four verticals:
- Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC)
- Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP)
- Affordable Renting Housing (ARP)
- Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS)

PMAY Documents List
- Applicant’s Aadhaar details i.e., Aadhaar number, name as per Aadhaar and date of birth.
- Aadhaar details of the family members.
- Active bank account details of the applicant i.e., account number, bank name, branch, IFSC code, linked with Aadhar card.
- Income proof of the applicant (Only in PDF format with size upto 200kb).
- Proof of Caste/Community (in case of SC/ST or OBC). (Only in PDF format with size upto 200kb).
- Land document (for BLC vertical). (Only PDF file, size upto 5mb).

PMAY application registrations are on the way. Here the steps to check eligibility and apply online for PMAY:
Step 1: Go to PMAY Urban’s official website https://pmay-urban.gov.in/.
Step 2: Click on the ‘Apply for PMAY-U 2.0’ option as shown below.
Step 3: Before proceeding further read all the instructions and guidelines
Step 4: Check the prerequisite parameters/eligibility criteria by filling the required information including household annual income, mission component etc. If you are not eligible, you will be notified at this step.

Step 6: Validate your aadhar details by verifying it. At last, fill in the information including address, income proof. Submit after carefully reviewing the details.
