When the Shuddh Peyjal Sewa Campaign Quenched Chandi Village’s 25–30-Year Thirst — The Selfless Service of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj

Chandi village, located in the Lakhan Majra tehsil of Rohtak district, Haryana, has finally left behind a decades-old water crisis. With a population of around 3,000, the village had been suffering from saline water and severe water shortages for several decades. Women carrying pots on their heads, young people travelling 2 to 2.5 kilometres to fetch water, and elderly residents suffering from illnesses associated with saline water had become part of everyday life in the village.

25–30 Years of Hardship, Saline Water and Villagers Struggling for Drinking Water

The groundwater TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) level in Chandi village was so high that the water was not suitable for drinking. The government water supply was also saline, and at times water would arrive only once every 3–4 days. The old wells and tube wells in the village had either dried up or stopped functioning.

To obtain sweet drinking water, villagers had to travel to nearby villages such as Gharouthi, Seerhi and Indergarh. Those who owned motorcycles, bicycles or vehicles somehow managed to bring water from 2–3 kilometres away. However, women from poor families had to walk several kilometres under the scorching sun, carrying water containers on their heads.

The use of saline water was reportedly causing stomach, skin and other health problems among residents. Bringing water had also become a source of daily tension and disputes in many households. Children were often late to school, and their education was affected by the water crisis. Villagers made repeated visits to the administration and concerned departments, but no permanent solution was found.

Plea Heard Within 24 Hours: Appeal at Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj Ji’s Ashram and Swift Action

After facing disappointment from various ends, Chandi village Sarpanch Mrs. Santosh Devi and other senior villagers visited Satlok Ashram Shri Dhanana Dham, operated under the guidance of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj. They presented their plight and explained how the entire village was struggling for every drop of water. Sarpanch Santosh Devi took an initiative by offering her private agricultural land near the canal for the installation of a borewell.

Following the villagers’ appeal, Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj instructed His disciples to assist the villagers. Within just 22–24 hours of the appeal, a survey team, heavy excavation machinery, boring equipment and a team of volunteers reached Chandi village as per His instructions.

Technical and Ground-Level Details of the Relief Work

Under the instructions of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj, the construction work began on a war footing:

• 120-foot-deep, 10-inch borewell: A strong 10-inch borewell with a depth of 120 feet was constructed on the Sarpanch’s land near the canal.
• 10 HP submersible motor: A high-capacity 10-horsepower submersible motor was installed to ensure a continuous water supply.
• 4,000-foot-long, 8-inch underground pipeline: An approximately 4,000-foot-long, 8-inch main pipeline was laid underground from the borewell to the village.
• Community water arrangement: The water distribution system for all 11 wards of the village was equipped with approximately 13 taps, enabling villagers to access water from a common location.
• Complete materials and accessories: Boring pipes, air valves, PVC bands, cables, starters, ropes, nuts, bolts and all other required technical materials were provided free of cost on behalf of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj Ji.

The entire project involved an expenditure of lakhs of rupees, which was borne by Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj. Not a single rupee was taken from the Gram Panchayat or villagers. After completion of the work, the keys to the borewell and motor were handed over to the Gram Panchayat as per the instructions of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj Ji.

As soon as a continuous stream of sweet and cool water emerged from the borewell, the entire village of Chandi celebrated with joy. Laddoos were distributed amid drumbeats and traditional celebratory songs.

• Sarpanch Santosh Devi: “We went to Maharaj Ji with our problem. He immediately heard our plea and got the water supply started within 2–3 days. The thirst of 3,000 people has been quenched. The decades-old suffering of our mothers and sisters has come to an end.”
• Master Baljeet Singh: “We had been suffering from this severe problem for 10–12 years. There was no solution at the government level, but Maharaj Ji’s survey team arrived within 24 hours and started the work. We are completely satisfied and grateful.”
• Dr. Lisan Singh (Former Panch): “For 25–30 years, we had been carrying water from other villages. When we went to Dhanana Dham, Maharaj Ji treated us with great respect and sent the entire team within 22 hours to begin the work. Future generations will also remain indebted to Maharaj Ji.”
