What’s changing on Independence Day 2025: The FASTag Annual Pass, which allows one to travel across highways more often, at a lower price, will be implemented by NHAI on Independence Day, on 15 August 2025. No more paying at each and every toll booth or filling up your FASTag balance repeatedly, now just one payment of 3,000 and up to 200 toll crossings or a full year of highway travel- whichever is earlier. It is meant to make trips smoother with fewer traffic stops and less waiting in traffic at toll stops.
What is Included With the Annual Pass
The pass includes payment of tolls on National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE) fee plaza. After your pass is activated you are ready to commence a journey throughout NH and NE toll booths where no cash will be withdrawn each time you travel-only until 200 trips or 1 year of activating the pass has elapsed. Once that has happened your FASTag will just automatically be reverted to regular pay-as-you-go.
Whose to Use It
Annual Pass is available to the non-commercial cars, jeep, and vans privately owned only. NHAI will cross-check databases to check its authenticity (official systems, such as VAHAN.). NHAI can disable the pass in case it is utilized on a commercial vehicle. The pass cannot be transferred: it is assigned to a particular vehicle and FASTag fixed on the windshield of such vehicle.
Where It Works and Where It Doesn’t
Your Annual pass will work in NH and NE plazas. It does not apply to facilities that are run at the state level like State Highways (SH), city expressways by local government bodies or parking lots. Your FASTag works as usual at those places and there might be normal and regular user fees.
The Purchase and Activation Process
The activation process of the pass can only be done through Rajmargyatra mobile or NHAI official website. Once your vehicle and FASTag are verified (a private use, proper tag state), you will have to pay 3,000/year for the year 2025-26. After the payment has been verified, the pass is usually activated to your FASTag in approximately 2 hours–there is absolutely no need to go to a plaza or a bank.
No New Tag Necessary
A new FASTag should not be purchased if you already have one. So, as long as it is well secured to your windshield, being connected to the right Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) and is not blacklisted, it is healthy for operation. A FASTag registered solely to a chassis number needs to be updated to be issued with a VRN so that the Annual Pass can be activated.
The simple way of Trip Counting
There are two systems applied:
- Point based plazas: Each crossing takes one trip. Round trip (returning and going back) is two.
- Closed tolling systems: Entry and exit as a unit count as a unit of trip.
Renewal and Validity
The Annual Pass is for an annual duration or for 200 trips, whichever comes first. By the time it expires, you may be renewing it to another cycle, or otherwise continue using your FASTag in a regular manner.
SMS Alerts and communication
On activating the pass, you provide consent to allow Rajmargyatra to retrieve your registered mobile number with the issuing bank in order to enable them to deliver SMS alerts and other news and update on your Annual Pass. This will enable you to be aware of activation, use and expiry.
An Optional Facility
There is no change to those users who do not need the pass. The current FASTag system stays intact. In case it is not compatible with your driving behavior, you may pass over this plan completely and continue paying tolls on the road as usual.
