Varanasi, December 2, 2025 – A 19-year-old Vedic scholar has completed a rigorous 50-day recitation of ancient scriptures in Varanasi, marking a significant revival of a tradition rarely performed in modern history. Vedamurti Devavrat Mahesh Rekhe successfully finished the Dandakrama Parayanam, a complex chanting of nearly 2,000 mantras from the Shukla Yajurveda. Experts indicate that this specific form of uninterrupted recitation has not been recorded in its pure classical form for nearly 200 years.

A Foundation in Oral Tradition

Devavrat, a native of Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, was trained in the Guru-Shishya Parampara (teacher-disciple lineage) by his father, Vedabrahmasri Mahesh Chandrakant Rekhe. His father is a recognized expert in the Shukla Yajurveda Madhyandina branch and an examiner for the Sringeri Peetham.

Unlike modern academic methods involving textbooks, this tradition relies exclusively on memory. Devavrat’s training focused on precise pronunciation, pitch (svara), and rhythm, where even minor deviations can alter a verse’s meaning. To facilitate advanced study, Devavrat relocated to Varanasi (Kashi), utilizing the city’s network of traditional schools.

The Challenge of Dandakrama Parayanam

The Dandakrama Parayanam is regarded as one of the most difficult methods of Vedic chanting. It requires the scholar to recite mantras from the Shukla Yajurveda in a complex mathematical sequence without any written reference.

Devavrat began this undertaking on October 2, 2025, at the Vallabharam Shaligram Sangved Vidyalaya. He continued daily for 50 days, logging approximately 165 hours of chanting. The process demands physical stamina and unbroken concentration; a single error in memory or breath control would have invalidated the attempt.

Community and National Recognition

Following the completion, the local Vedic community organized a felicitation ceremony on December 1, 2025. A procession from Rathayatra Crossing to Mahmoorganj was attended by over 500 scholars and religious figures. Devavrat was awarded a golden bracelet valued at ₹5 lakh and a cash prize of ₹1,11,116. He also received formal blessings from the Shankaracharyas of the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham, validating the accuracy of his recitation.

The achievement garnered attention from national leadership. On December 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the feat on X (formerly Twitter), noting its role in preserving the Guru Parampara. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also honored Devavrat at the Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0, emphasizing the importance of traditional knowledge systems.

Preserving Memory in a Digital Age

Devavrat’s accomplishment has sparked discussions regarding human cognitive potential in an era of digital dependency. The Dandakrama Parayanam serves as a practical demonstration that ancient oral techniques remain effective for retaining complex data without technology. By successfully completing this 50-day cycle, Devavrat has ensured that the specific auditory heritage of the Shukla Yajurveda remains active.

Eye Candy

Humans are often drawn to superficial attractions that lack genuine substance. The recitation performed by Vedamurti is undoubtedly a significant achievement. However, this accomplishment primarily reflects Vedamurti’s physical and mental discipline rather than representing a spiritual method of salvation.

The fundamental reason for prayer and worship is seeking God’s presence and assistance during times of distress. Yet, what constitutes genuine worship? What methodologies are employed? What truly defines True Worship?

These questions previously lacked clear answers, but with the advent of the Bhakti Yug of Kaliyug, Saint Rampal Ji Maharaj has elucidated this true spiritual path. This authentic form of worship is grounded in the very scriptures we recite but have often failed to comprehend. Mere recitation of scriptures proves ineffective without a true understanding of their intended meaning. Fortunately, there is no longer a need for concern, as Saint Rampal Ji Maharaj uses these scriptures to reveal the true essence of spirituality and the correct way of life:Who is God, what is He like and how can He be Identified in Holy Scriptures? – Articles – Jagat Guru Rampal Ji.

To fully grasp the true identity of God and the correct methodology of worship, one is encouraged to read the book Gyaan Ganga by Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj. This will enable individuals to transcend superficial allurements and attain the genuine path to salvation.
