- Nine people lost their lives after loose soil collapsed at an under construction stainless steel factory site near Jasalpur village in Kadi Taluka of Mehsana District of Gujarat.
- The incident occurred around 1:45 PM on October 12th, 2024. Police and the ambulances rushed to the site immediately after receiving reports about the incident.
- Labourers who died included two women, and one worker was rescued and injured during the incident. Most of the workers – six from Dahod district of Gujarat, and three from Banswara district of Rajasthan.
- Ashishbhai, Rajubhai Meda, Arvindbhai Bhuriya, Ayushiben Ashishbhai, Mukeshbhai Mansingh, and Shaileshbhai Gitabhai Bhabhor were from Gujarat, while Gangaben Bariya, Mahendrabhai Bariya, and Jagannath Bariya were from Rajasthan.
- Workers were part of the construction team for the under-development stainless steel factory. They were excavating soil 16 feet deep for the development of an underground water tank.
- Police will file an FIR after receiving the post mortem report and will verify whether safety norms were followed at the construction site.
- District Development Officer (DDO) Dr. Hasrat Jasmine said one 19-year-old was rescued and receiving the required care.
- Gujarat’s CM Bhupendra Patel announced assistance from the CM Relief Fund.
- PM Modi, through his official twitter handle of PMO, expressed his grief over the tragic incident of the collapse in Gujarat claiming nine lives.
- According to the official press release (Release ID: 2064393), PM Modi has also announced a relief fund of INR 2 lakh for the families who lost their lives, while INR 50,000 for injured ones. The funds will be allocated from the Prime Minister National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
