IMD predicts Very Heavy Rainfall
Cyclone Fengal Updates: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has revealed that the deep depression formed around 500 km away from the coast of Chennai around 5:30 PM on 27th November, 2024. It is more likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours. And it is expected to reach the coast of Tamil Nadu & Puducherry as a deep depression around the morning of 30th December, 2024.
IMD has given a detailed prediction for each day from 27th November to 2nd December, 2024. The areas especially the areas of Tamil Nadu have gathered headlines because of the intensified rains happening over there. These rains are the outcomes of high pressure cyclonic and wind movements over the Bay of Bengal. It is already causing damage to life and property in the area.

Flights delayed, IndiGo issues travel advisory
- Cyclone Fengal Updates: Transportation system is affected the most in case of weather failures. Many flights in the affected areas are affected as the weather conditions worsened due to cyclone fengal.
- IndiGo airlines has issued a travel advisory for its passengers and advised them to keep themselves updated. As the conditions are majorly the same, hence the status of the flights has been affected.
Damages reported
- Cyclone Fengal Updates: An old house in the Mayiladuthurai district of Tamil Nadu collapsed completely amidst non stop rains in the area.
- Heavy rainfall happening in the state of Tamil Nadu has destroyed crops in parts of Thanjavur District.
- People are stuck, transportation problems, waterlogging problems are becoming more common in the districts of Tamil Nadu.
- Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu to cut power in the city for two days, 27th and 28th November, 2024.
- Keeping in mind the impact of cyclone fengal, the third level storm warning has been issued at Pamban fishing port in Rameshwaram of Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu.
Fisherman warning
- Cyclone Fengal Updates: Fishermen have been advised to avoid fishing in southwest Bay of Bengal and along & off the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka till 30th November, 2024.
- Warnings have also been issued for fishermen not to venture in adjoining areas of West Central Bay of Bengal and along & off Andhra Pradesh coast in between 27th and 30th November, 2024.
- Fishermen out in the sea are advised to return immediately as the waves are intensifying because of cyclone fengal.

MK Stalin reviewed the situation
- Cyclone Fengal Updates: Tamil Nadu CM, MK Stalin, called a review meeting with the district collectors of Mayiladuthurai, Villupuram, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Cuddalore, and urged the ministers to work hard to face the challenge. The CM has also urged the public to remain safe while going out as the cyclone fengal is just around the corner.
- NDRF Teams have been assigned in the state amidst rising concerns over safety and disaster warning.
- Puducherry CM, N Rangaswamy also inquired about the police arrangements made amidst heavy rains concerns arising due to cyclone fengal.
Holiday declared
- Cyclone Fengal Updates: Holidays have been declared throughout the state of Tamil Nadu in various districts at various workplaces.
- School holidays, and at other educational institutions have also been declared amidst rising concerns for cyclone fengal.
- Holiday has also been declared in Puducherry for 28th November, 2024 at all government and private aided schools.
