On Wednesday, 25th December, 2024, a passenger plane flying from Azerbaijan to Russia crashed in the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. The plane was of Azerbaijan Airlines, reported to be carrying 62 passengers and 5 crew members. However, the exact cause of the accident is still awaited. Explore details below.

  • Azerbaijan Airlines Flight J28243 departed from Baku, Azerbaijan at 3:55 UTC to Grozny in Southern Russia. The aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing at around 3 km (1.8 miles) from Aktau, Kazakhstan.

  • The possible cause of the plane crash is expected to be strong GPS Jamming, causing operational problems for the crew.

  • The aircraft was struggling to maintain the altitude for approximately an hour.

  • Azerbaijan Airlines has released the name of all the passengers onboard and the crew members in their recent tweet.

  • Azerbaijan Airlines further confirmed the nationalities of all the passengers including, 37 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russian citizens, 6 Kazakh citizens, and 3 Kyrgyz citizens.

  • The airline has also issued a hotline number for the families of those who are affected because of the crash.

  • All the surviving passengers were found sitting in the tail of the passenger plane. None of the crew members including the pilots survived the crash. The survivors were hospitalised by the emergency rescue team of Kazakhstan after a brutal plane crash.

  • Russian President Vladimir Putin also expressed his grief over such a brutal accident to IIham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia also responded.

  • The President of Azerbaijan is set to return early from his visit to Russia following this tragic plane crash.
  • Ramzan Kadyrov, Kremlin-backed leader, also expressed condolences for those who lost their lives and fought hard for survival in the plane crash.
  • A commission headed by the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, has been formed to look into the causes of Kazakhstan plane crash.
  • As per the reports, 38 people died in the incident while 29 people survived and some of them are in very critical condition.
  • An early video shows how the Azerbaijan Airlines crashed in Kazakhstan.
