Who is Lt. Commander Yashasvi Solanki?
- Yashasvi Solanki hails from Bharuch district of Gujarat, known for her determination, discipline, and commitment to service.
- She completed her engineering from the Nirma University, Ahmedabad and joined the Indian Navy’s Logistics Branch through Short Service Commission (SSC) in 2012.
- She was given a 15-day training before her actual appointment at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.
- Her term of service as ADC to the President of India is expected to last between 2.5 to 3 years.
What is an Aide-de-Camp (ADC)?
For an individual with high status or renowned figure, primarily senior military officer or head of state, an ADC, a personal aide is allotted. The President of India typically has five ADC’s (Assistants) — three from the Army, and one each from Navy and Air force. Their role is to accompany the President on official engagements, state visits, etc.
Criteria For An ADC
- The conditions/ criteria for selecting the candidate for the post of President’s ADC is quite strict.
- It requires a mandatory height of 173 cm or more and physical fitness.
- Yashasvi has been a great badminton and volleyball player. Her love for sport is very uncommon which has allowed her to maintain the required fitness and she became the first woman ADC to the President of India.
Role of an ADC
