Mumbai, October 12, 2024: In a shocking incident, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was shot dead outside his son’s office in Bandra East on Saturday, 12 October’s evening.

Incident Details

According to eyewitnesses, three unknown assailants opened fire on Siddique around 8:30 pm, striking him thrice. He was rushed to the nearby Lilavati Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police Investigation is launched 

The Mumbai Police have detained two suspects from the spot and launched an investigation into the murder. “We are investigating all possible angles, including political rivalry and personal enmity,” said a senior police official.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said Mumbai police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar said that two alleged shooters have been taken into custody.

One of them is from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Haryana, while a third accused fled from the spot, the CM told TV channels.

Political Reactions

NCP President and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar described the attack as “extremely unfortunate and condemnable.” “Baba Siddique was a seasoned politician and a loyal party worker. His demise is a huge loss for the NCP,” Pawar said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde condemned the killing, saying, “The perpetrators will be brought to justice.”

Baba Siddique’s Political Career

A three-time MLA from Bandra West, Siddique had been associated with Congress for 48 years before joining NCP in February 2024. He served as a minister in the Maharashtra government during the Congress-NCP alliance.
