Hope for Farmers Amid 30-Year-Old Waterlogging Problem in Jakhoda
SHARE

Jakhoda village, located in the Bahadurgarh tehsil area of Haryana’s Jhajjar district, is currently struggling with a problem that has affected both farming and everyday life. According to villagers, following the flood of 1995, large parts of the village and surrounding agricultural land have continued to face waterlogging. Residents claim that prolonged water accumulation in the fields has repeatedly affected farming, forcing some families to purchase even the grain they needed from the market.

Villagers and the Gram Panchayat are said to have made efforts at various levels to address the problem. According to residents, arrangements such as motors and electricity connections were previously made at the government level, but these systems could not function permanently over time. As a result, water drainage remained a longstanding concern for the village.

Meanwhile, villagers reportedly sought assistance under Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj’s Kisan Mazdoor Bachao Abhiyan. After the request for assistance, a survey team visited the village, inspected the waterlogged areas, and subsequently pipeline and other materials were brought to the village.

Relief from Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj Make Jakhauda Village Overcome 30-Year Waterlogging Crisis

BAHADURGARH, JHAJJAR: For nearly three decades since 1995, farmers in Jakhauda village, located in Haryana’s Jhajjar district, faced devastating annual losses due to severe waterlogging.

Extensive soil excavation for surrounding industrial development left agricultural lands low-lying and highly vulnerable. Every monsoon, rainwater flooded hundreds of acres of fertile land, destroying standing crops and causing financial damage worth crores of rupees every year.

Technical Survey & Infrastructure Sanction

Relief finally arrived through the Kisan Mazdoor Bachao Abhiyan under the guidance of Tatvdarshi Saint Rampal Ji Maharaj.

Following a formal request from the Gram Panchayat, a technical survey team inspected the site and sanctioned a total of 19,200 feet of 8-inch heavy-duty pipeline and five high-capacity water pumping motors (one 20 HP and four 10 HP units) along with complete installation accessories.

Underground Implementation & Zero-Cost Delivery

Following the project blueprint, the Gram Panchayat completed laying three major pipeline routes underground.

Upon satisfactory inspection by the survey team, Saint Rampal Ji Maharaj’s relief convoy delivered one 20 HP motor, two 10 HP motors, L&T starters, heavy-duty wiring, air valves, PVC fittings, and all hardware directly to the village, completely free of cost.

The local Sarpanch and farmers expressed deep gratitude, noting that where government efforts failed for 30 years, this noble initiative delivered genuine, zero-cost ground relief.

Three Decades of Waterlogging Have Affected Farmers’ Agriculture

Residents of Jakhoda say the waterlogging problem did not arise suddenly but has continued since the 1995 flood. According to villagers, prolonged water accumulation in several fields has repeatedly damaged crops such as paddy and wheat.

One villager said that a motor had previously been installed to drain water from the village. The system worked for some time, but later the motor and other equipment were removed. Efforts were also made to arrange electricity connections and establish a permanent drainage system, but a lasting solution could not be achieved.

According to villagers, the situation became so difficult that some farmers had to purchase grain from the market for their families. One farmer explained that due to waterlogging, his land could not produce as expected, forcing him to purchase wheat from outside. The problem was not limited to agricultural fields. Residents also said that stagnant water and dirt affected the overall environment of the village.

For farmers, the biggest concern has been that despite having agricultural land, they have not been able to use it to its full potential.

Villagers Raised Demand for Drainage as Survey Team Inspected the Site

Villagers and Panchayat representatives raised the waterlogging issue before Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj. Following this, a survey team visited Jakhoda and inspected different locations.

During the survey, the team reportedly assessed where water accumulated most heavily, the direction in which it could be drained, and the quantity of pipeline and motors required.

Villagers said that a long pipeline was needed to carry the water to a designated location outside the village. Villagers mention the requirement of approximately 12,700 feet of pipeline. Subsequently, around 13,000 feet of 8-inch-diameter pipeline material was reportedly brought to the village.

Pipeline and Connecting Materials Reached the Village Soon After the Survey

One of the most significant developments for the residents of Jakhoda was the reported arrival of relief material soon after the survey. Along with the pipeline, materials required for joining the pipes, including air valves, SR and Fevicol, were also sent.

Villagers said that the transportation cost of delivering the material to the village was also borne by the assisting team and that they were not charged any amount for it. Villagers and representatives were saying that the material was provided to them free of cost.

The arrival of trucks also changed the atmosphere in the village. While residents had long been concerned about waterlogging and its impact on agriculture, they gathered after the relief material arrived. At several places, the team was welcomed, and a convoy moved through the village with tractors.

For the villagers, this was more than simply receiving material. It was a moment of hope that if the pipeline was laid to the designated locations and water drainage began, the affected agricultural fields could potentially become suitable for cultivation again.

Convoy Passed Through Village Streets as Residents Welcomed the Relief Material

The arrival of relief material created a notable scene in Jakhoda. Trucks loaded with pipes, tractors and a convoy of villagers passed through the village and market towards the programme venue.

Several villagers were reportedly seen standing with flower garlands to welcome the convoy. Local residents placed garlands on the portrait of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj and showered flowers. Villagers also joined the convoy with tractors.

For the people of Jakhoda, the event was not merely a welcome programme. Amid a problem that had continued for years, the arrival of relief material represented a sign of hope.

A local representative said there was no proper route for draining the water from the village and that the necessary means to carry the water to a canal or drain were unavailable. According to him, the proposed pipeline is planned to carry the water to a designated location approximately 2.5 to 3 kilometres away from the village.

Hope of Saving Agriculture and Supporting Farmers’ Families

The biggest impact of waterlogging in Jakhoda has been on agriculture. A farmer’s income is directly connected with the land, and when fields remain waterlogged, the impact extends to the entire family.

Villagers said that many farmers had suffered continuous losses. Waterlogging affected crops such as wheat and paddy, and several fields failed to produce the expected yield.

One farmer described how there were times when he had to purchase wheat from the market to meet his family’s needs. According to him, if the water can be drained and the land becomes suitable for cultivation again, the benefit will extend beyond individual farmers to agricultural labourers and other rural families.

This is why residents view the proposed drainage system not only as a way to revive agriculture but also as a potential source of employment and economic improvement for the village. If regular farming resumes, agricultural labourers may also have greater opportunities for work.

Villagers Say Earlier Efforts Did Not Provide a Permanent Solution

Residents of Jakhoda said that attempts had previously been made at the government level to install motors and establish drainage arrangements. According to villagers, the motor operated for some time, but the system eventually stopped functioning. One resident said that the problem cannot be solved merely by installing a motor; a permanent system is necessary to continuously remove the water. For this reason, villagers consider the current plan to lay a long pipeline particularly important.

A representative associated with the Block Committee also said that the issue had previously been raised at various levels. According to him, after requesting assistance from Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj, the survey and delivery of relief material progressed within a short period. He described it as his personal experience that the survey and assistance material reached the village within just a few days.

Villagers Appreciated the Service Efforts of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj

After the relief material reached Jakhoda, villagers appreciated the service efforts of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj. Residents said that amid a problem that had continued for years, receiving such material through a service campaign was significant assistance for them.

Supporters describe Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj’s Kisan Mazdoor Bachao Abhiyan as a service initiative focused on the problems faced by farmers and labourers.

According to Jakhoda residents, the provision of pipeline, motors and related materials has given them hope that the condition of their agricultural land can improve.

At the same time, the actual success of any relief effort ultimately depends on its long-term results. If the pipeline and motor system functions effectively and waterlogging is reduced for the long term, the greatest beneficiaries will be the farmers, their land and their livelihoods.

New Hope Among Villagers as the Issue Becomes a Topic of Discussion

The arrival of relief material created a sense of discussion throughout Jakhoda, not only among farmers but across the village. People from different communities and sections reportedly participated in the programme.

Villagers said that a farmer’s problem is not limited to the farmer alone. If agriculture performs well, agricultural labourers will receive work, local market activity may increase and the village economy can become stronger.

For this reason, residents view the initiative as having a broader social impact. If the land affected by waterlogging becomes suitable for cultivation again, it could improve the economic condition of several families in the years ahead.

When the Fields Begin to Show Hope Instead of Water

The story of Jakhoda is not merely about pipes and motors. It is the story of farmers who have watched their fields remain waterlogged for years but have not given up hope for a solution.

According to villagers, the waterlogging problem that began after the 1995 flood has continuously affected their agriculture. Now, with assistance involving approximately 12,700 to 13,000 feet of 8-inch pipeline and five proposed motors, residents hope that a route for draining the water will finally be established.

However, for the people of Jakhoda, the arrival of relief material itself represents a new beginning after years of waiting. The convoy moving through the village streets, the happiness visible on the faces of farmers, and the hope of bringing their fields back to life all demonstrate how even a small intervention can become a major source of hope during a long-running crisis.

The farmers of Jakhoda now hope that the proposed system will be completed soon and that their land, which has remained affected by water for years, will once again become fertile fields filled with crops. If the drainage system proves successful, it could become more than just a relief effort for the village—it could represent an important step towards restoring agriculture and livelihoods.
