On January 14, 2025, the National Testing Agency (NTA) released a public notice on its official website for updating of aadhaar details of aspirants for NEET (UG) – 2025 examination. NTA is the agency responsible for conducting the exams with greater efficiency and transparency, and has urged candidates to support the integration of APAAR ID for the examination. What is an APAAR ID?
APAAR ID is a 12-digit unique ID particularly for students, compiling their lifelong academic identity at one place. Particularly, for examinations, integration with aadhaar facilitates a simplified application process by auto-populating the candidates details, reducing the possibilities of manual errors and discrepancies.

The full form of APAAR ID is Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry Identification.
How to apply for an APAAR ID?
The application of an APPAR ID is done through the school only by completing the following processes:
- Verification: Visit the school to verify details.
- Parental Consent: Parents need to fill up a form as a consent for APAAR ID generation if the student is a minor.
- Authentication: School will authenticate the details and the UDISE system generates APPAR ID using the PEN ID of each student.
- ID Creation: APPAR ID is created and added into the digilocker account of the student.

What information is required to create an APPAR ID?
The name of the student in UDISE should be exactly the same as written in the Aadhaar card. Along with this unique PEN is required to generate APPAR ID.

The details of the official notification from NTA regarding APPAR ID is as follows:
- The candidates aspiring to appear for NEET (UG) 2025 are required to update their APAAR ID as well as Aadhaar-based authentication during the application and examination process.
- Also, the candidates are advised to validate/update their information like name and DOB in Aadhaar, preferably as per their 10th Marksheet or Passing Certificate.
- The public notice further specified that the NEET (UG) 2025 registration process shall be starting in the due course of time.

Update Aadhaar Card
- Verify Aadhaar credentials: Firstly, it is crucial for candidates to verify that their Aadhaar details, especially their name and date of birth (as per the 10th Marksheet/Passing Certificate), are correct.
- Link Aadhaar Number with a valid mobile number: Candidates are required to make sure that their Aadhaar is linked with a valid mobile number for OTP-based authentication during the application and examination processes.
- Facial recognition: As UIDAI has introduced facial recognition systems, the candidates can benefit from faster and more accurate verification methods for an optimal and smooth experience.
All this can be done at the nearest Aadhaar enrollment/ Update Center, primarily called as Suvidha Centre.
