• Runoff from the agricultural fields: One of the major reasons for marine pollution is the agriculture runoff. Agriculture runoff results in the removal of  topsoil from the croplands, which includes most fertilisers, insecticides and pesticides which gets mixed inthe sea water. This leads to the death of marine life. 

• Improper disposal of prescribed drugs: Dumping unused medicines and drugs in the seas harms the marine flora as well as fauna.  

• Military Sonar: Military Sonar leads to stopping of forage by many species of marine whales. This could lead to starvation and death of many whale species.

• Untreated Industry Discharge: Government has made rules for the treatment of waste prior to their disposal into the water bodies. Still only a handful of these industries follow the rules. Huge quantities of the industry discharge are disposed untreated into the water bodies affecting marine life.  

• Oil spills: Oil spills can affect sea animals due to oil toxicity or by restricting their movement. 

• Mining Deep in the sea: Deep sea mining involves the removal of seabed which destroys sponges, corals and other long formed marine life.
