The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is certain to win the next Delhi administration after 27 years, having won 48 of 70 seats. Following the election results, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Chief Minister Atishi tendered her resignation to Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena. With the AAP’s seat count reduced to 22, party leaders are convening at convener Arvind Kejriwal’s home to study the vote share, choose the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, and plan future measures.
Meanwhile, BJP officials are contemplating on their pick for Chief Minister, with a critical meeting scheduled for shortly, attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and party President J.P. Nadda.
Who will be the next Delhi Chief Minister?
In line with its history of not declaring a CM face for Assembly elections, the BJP has stated that a choice will be made once the results are announced. Mr. Sachdeva had stated that the decision will be made by the party’s central high command, which includes Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

- Parvesh Verma, the son of former chief minister Sahib Singh Verma, won the New Delhi seat against Arvind Kejriwal. Chief Ministers of Delhi have traditionally come from this seat.
- Three-time Rohini MLA and BJP veteran Vijender Gupta. He has been involved in Delhi politics since his college days and currently serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly.
- Former AAP Minister Kailash Gahlot joined the BJP in 2024. A well-known Jat politician, he was elected from Bijwasan and had previously served in Kejriwal’s Transport and Environment ministries.
- Former Delhi Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely joined the BJP in 2024. An experienced politician, he was elected from Gandhi Nagar and served in Sheila Dikshit’s Cabinet in a number of capacities.
- Virendra Sachdeva – BJP Delhi chief and first Punjabi leader to hold this position since 2010. Recently made headlines for taking a dip in the Yamuna to protest the Delhi government’s handling of pollution.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured BJP workers that the CAG report on Delhi will be presented in the first Assembly session following the party’s formation of the government, only hours after the Election Commission declared the results of the Delhi elections. “These people were building a sheesh mahal at a time when the world was struggling with the Covid pandemic,” he remarked. “We will return your love hundredfold in the form of development,” Modi declared, thanking the Delhi residents for their mandate.

Arvind Kejriwal Accepts Defeat in Delhi Assembly Elections
Delhi’s former Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener, Arvind Kejriwal, has accepted his party’s defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections.In a video message, he said, “We humbly accept the people’s verdict. I congratulate the BJP and hope they fulfill the expectations of the people who have elected them.”Kejriwal acknowledged the decade-long opportunity given by the people and highlighted AAP’s efforts in improving education, healthcare, water, and infrastructure.
