In a significant move aimed at reducing academic stress and aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced plans to conduct Class X board examinations twice a year starting from 2026. Additionally, the board is set to introduce a Global Curriculum for its affiliated foreign schools in the 2026-2027 academic session.

Twice-Yearly Board Examinations

Traditionally, CBSE has conducted board examinations for Classes X and XII annually during the February-March period. However, beginning in 2026, students will have the opportunity to sit for these exams twice a year, with the option to retain their best score. This initiative is designed to alleviate the pressure associated with a single high-stakes examination and provide students with multiple opportunities to demonstrate their proficiency.

The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The meeting included officials from CBSE, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS). A ministry official stated, “The initiative aims at reducing the high pressure, one-time examination system and provide students with an opportunity to improve their performance without the stress of a single high-stakes test.”

This reform aligns with the NEP 2020’s emphasis on flexibility and a student-centric approach. By offering multiple attempts, CBSE seeks to create a more supportive learning environment that prioritizes conceptual understanding over rote memorization. The policy shift also promotes competency-based evaluations, moving away from traditional summative assessments. This approach focuses on formative learning and skill mastery, encouraging students to engage deeply with the subject matter.

Introduction of CBSE Global Curriculum

In addition to the changes in examination patterns, CBSE is set to roll out a Global Curriculum tailored for its 260 affiliated foreign schools starting from the 2026-2027 academic year. This initiative aims to provide a standardized education framework for Indian schools abroad, ensuring that students receive a quality education that is both globally relevant and rooted in Indian values.

The Global Curriculum is expected to incorporate core Indian subjects while integrating international educational best practices. This blend will offer students a holistic education, preparing them to navigate and succeed in a globalized world. The curriculum will emphasize critical thinking, continuous assessment, and a broader understanding of global issues, making international education more accessible and affordable for Indian students abroad.

Stakeholder Engagement and Implementation

To ensure a smooth transition to the new examination system and curriculum, CBSE plans to engage with various stakeholders, including educators, parents, and students. The board will soon release draft schemes for public consultation, inviting feedback to refine and optimize the proposed changes. This collaborative approach aims to address potential challenges and incorporate diverse perspectives, ensuring that the reforms meet the needs of the student community effectively.

The introduction of biannual board examinations and a Global Curriculum represents a significant shift in India’s educational landscape. These reforms are poised to reduce exam-related stress, provide students with greater flexibility, and align the Indian education system with global standards. As CBSE moves forward with these initiatives, continuous dialogue with stakeholders will be crucial to their successful implementation and the overall enhancement of educational outcomes for students.

True Success: Excelling in Studies While Embracing Spiritual Wisdom

The introduction of twice-a-year CBSE board exams is a commendable step toward reducing academic pressure and giving students more flexibility to perform at their best. This initiative aligns with the evolving education system, which now prioritizes conceptual learning over rote memorization. However, while reforms in education are crucial, true success in life is not merely about securing high marks—it is also about developing inner wisdom, moral values, and a purpose-driven life.

Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj teaches that knowledge should not be limited to worldly achievements alone. A person may acquire the best education, secure a prestigious job, or gain financial stability, but without spiritual understanding, true peace and contentment remain elusive. Just as multiple attempts in board exams provide students with an opportunity to improve, human life itself is an opportunity to seek true wisdom and understand the ultimate purpose of existence.

Education must go hand in hand with spiritual awareness. In the teachings of Sant Rampal Ji Maharaj, it is emphasized that beyond material success, individuals should strive for self-realization and devotion to the Supreme God, Kabir Sahib. He explains that by following the path of righteousness, non-violence, and true worship as per holy scriptures, one can attain real success—liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
